A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
