The teenager has featured in seven games for the Spanish giants, including five starts.

When an 18-year-old makes club history in a crucial Champions League match against City, it naturally attracts praise and attention.

During his first start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the club - the young midfielder suitably impressed as the 15-time Champions League winners claimed a three-nil round of 16 first leg lead at the Bernabeu.

The young player, who also made his club debut in the qualifying round a few weeks prior with a substitute appearance at Benfica, then helped Los Blancos overcome the English champions in the midweek return to secure a last eight place.

Aged 18 years old, Pitarch became the club's youngest player to begin two matches in the Champions League knockout stages, beating Brazil forward Vinicius Jr's previous mark by 10 days.

Rapid Ascent From The Academy

The midfielder is the latest to emerge from the famed youth system and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting protegees.

He joined Real from CD Leganes in 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico and Getafe's academies, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he quickly made a strong impression.

He progressed to the reserve side and it was in a pre-season game in which they played against the senior squad, then coached by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have drawn the eye of the current Real boss, who replaced the previous coach in the new year.

Reports would later label the moment as "love at first sight," noting he stood out not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, character and determination he added to the side.

'His Greatest Quality Is His Personality'

In the summer of 2025, ex-manager Xabi Alonso called up Pitarch to practice with the senior squad and gave him minutes during pre-season.

However, it was Arbeloa's appointment that proved the defining moment in his career as he came on as a late substitute in each leg against Benfica that set up the meeting with Pep Guardiola's team.

"I've dreamed of this every night when sleeping, the first day I started playing the game, each day you head to training and every day you play a match," stated Pitarch after his first appearance.

"I have just fulfilled my dream with the greatest club in the planet and in the best competition."

Handed a starting debut in La Liga against his former club - where he was for four years after arriving from Atleti in 2018 - he has kept his spot for the following four as injuries to Jude Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.

The teenager has seized it with performances that have defied his age and inexperience.

"He is a extremely fast player, and you can see his capabilities," said Arbeloa. "He is incredibly energetic, with great endurance, work-rate and movement."

Pitarch's mentality has also stood out to his manager.

"His standout trait is his character," continued he. "He always wants the ball, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I understand fans might be surprised to see him start in a Champions League match, but he is selected because I had complete trust in him to perform what he usually does.

"He will continue to get chances with the first team. It's a pleasure to have a player like him."

A Future International Decision

Born in a Madrid suburb, in the Madrid region, and grew up deeply involved in the local game, progressing through local academies before joining the club's renowned youth academy.

He holds dual Spanish and Moroccan nationality, offering him the option to represent either country at the highest level.

According to international regulations, players may appear for different countries at junior level without being permanently tied, with the final decision only final once they play in a competitive senior international match.

He has featured for the Spanish national team at youth level, representing both the U19 and under-20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where La Roja reached the last eight.

Nevertheless, he has yet to commit to any full national side, who are monitoring his rise with interest.

In a recent interview, the player said: "I have not taken my final decision so far. My situation is great with Spain, but I'll make a decision soon."

His situation echoes that of other bi-national players such as club colleague Brahim Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. Whereas 18-year-old Yamal chose La Roja, Brahim decided to play for Morocco.

Focus on the Future

At present, Pitarch's focus is on making his mark in the Real side and rewarding his manager's belief.

He featured for 74 minutes in the two-one win at the Etihad, which completed a 5-1 aggregate success and a quarter-final matchup with the German champions.

He was replaced by another academy player in Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in younger players to aid the club pursue trophies to come.

Following his impressive impact so far on the Champions League, the midfielder is expected to play a key role in that.

"The manager handles me the identical way. We deal with it very normally. I try not to overanalyze it excessively - I must earn my playing time on the pitch," he said following the win at Manchester.
